John Monaghan is the Director of Strategic Initiatives for The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties based in Utica, NY. He leads The Foundation’s work on Lead Free Mohawk Valley (Lead Free MV), a $6 million, 13-year, collective impact initiative compromising 40+ partner organizations. Lead Free MV launched in 2016 and aspires to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in the Mohawk Valley by 2030. To date, Lead Free MV has supported over 20 collaborative projects and has secured more than $6.5 million in additional leveraged funds.
Prior to his role at The Community Foundation, John was a Senior Program Manager for National Grid’s Market Strategy Team where he worked on consumer application of smart grid technologies in Massachusetts and New York to meet regulatory goals for addressing climate change.
John currently sits on the Advisory Committee for Engage New York, a funder collaborative focused on advancing progressive policy change at a state and local level. He is a graduate of Hobart College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Policy and holds a Graduate Certificate in the Business of Energy from Clarkson University (formerly Union Graduate College).
